The Narrativist

What I'm playing right now

I enjoy roleplaying so much that I tend to have two parallel branches of gameplay going: public and private. My public games are the ones I run for others. I’m recruiting players for a GURPS game set during the Battle of Stalingrad right now, and I’ll run that in July, and I have some follow-up games I’ll offer later in the year, like a two-player outing with Classified, and another with Righteous Blood, Ruthless Blades.

At the same time, I have my private games, which I play solo. I’m running a small GURPS JapanĀ game for myself involving ninja that I’m enjoying quite a bit. And though I call these solo games ā€œprivate,ā€ I will often post summaries of my sessions for folks to read. Not because they’re so fascinating, but as a jumping-off point for their own solo adventures.

So you can see, just from this selection I’ve mentioned, that my gaming enjoyment draws on many traditions across the GNS spectrum. I don’t like restricting myself, but it’s worth pointing out that even with the crunchiest of games (like GURPS), I still consider the entire exercise a vehicle for storytelling. As you will probably see when I finally start posting some of those session summaries I mentioned.

I guess if I had any advice today, it’d be this: don’t restrict yourself to one game, or one category of game. Your imagination is boundless, so why put it inside a fence? Open the gate. Run free.
